The battle against scaling in pulp mill evaporators is constant when processing black liquor for the
recovery boiler. Scaling creates two major and costly problems:
1. Scaling increases steam consumption
2. Scaling requires periodic maintenance shutdowns to "boil-out" the scale buildup.
Black liquor begins to form scale on the surface of conventional evaporation equipment from startup and
eventually reaches a point at which the heat transfer stops completely.
The ShockWave Power™ Reactor (SP) can be used in a variety of configurations to achieve
significant improvements in the concentration of black liquor. It can be used as a scale-free preheater that reduces scaling in conventional evaporators, or the
SPR can replace conventional evaporators to achieve scale-free concentration at a higher viscosity reduction. The SP Reactor can increase production between 6% and
15% depending on the application. This increase is obtained at a fraction of the capital costs associated with conventional equipment.
The SPR can be used for:
- Black Liquor Preheating
- Black Liquor Oxidation
- Black Liquor Oxdation for Scale Deactivation
- Black Liquor Oxidation for Heat Value Reduction
- Black Liquor Concentration
- TRS Reduction
